Hong Kong’s anti-graft watchdog, the ICAC, has arrested 22 people over corruption linked to seven building renovation projects. The projects are worth more than HK$200 million (US$25.6 million). Those arrested include 17 men and 5 women aged 36 to 78. The suspects were directors and employees from four project consultancy firms and three contractors, plus several chairmen of owners’ corporations from housing estates and buildings. ICAC officers raided multiple sites, including the firms’ and contractors’ offices. They seized tender and work documents, as well as banking and accounting records. "The operation involved the grand renovation projects at three housing estates, three residential buildings and an industrial building across the territory in Tsuen Wan, Sham Shui Po, Tai Kok Tsui, San Po Kong, Kwun Tong, Sheung Wan and Shau Kei Wan," the ICAC said. The individual contract sums ranged from HK$2 million to over HK$100 million, with a total exceeding HK$200 million. The agency said two projects worth over HK$100 million were still in preparatory stages. "The ICAC’s operation prevented the award of the two contracts concerned," they added.
