BC School Shooting Suspect Created Mass Shooting Simulator on Roblox
February 13, 2026
The 18-year-old suspect in the British Columbia school shooting created a mass shooting simulator on Roblox. The game, set in a virtual shopping mall, allowed players to pick up weapons and shoot other avatars, reported 404 Media. Users first found the suspect’s Roblox account on Kiwi Farms, a site known for doxing. After the Wednesday shooting, Canadian police identified the suspect as Jesse Van Rootselaar. Roblox said, “We have removed the user account connected to this horrifying incident as well as any content associated with the suspect.” The company added the game, called “Mall experience,” was only accessible through Roblox Studio, a developer tool, and had just seven visits. Roblox also said it uses AI and safety specialists to review uploads before users see them. The attack in Tumbler Ridge killed nine people, including a teacher, five students, the suspect’s mother, and her stepbrother. The suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and had a history of mental health issues. Roblox has faced criticism before for harmful content, and is even dealing with a lawsuit over child exploitation. Studies show only a weak link between violent games and real violence, but attacks using “gamified violence” are rising. The Christchurch mosque shooter live-streamed his attack on Twitch, and so did the 2022 Buffalo shooter.
