Pak Senate Rejects Resolution to Shift Imran Khan to Hospital Amid Health Worries
February 13, 2026
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's Senate erupted in chaos after rejecting a resolution demanding the transfer of jailed PTI founder Imran Khan to a hospital for full medical check-up. The resolution, submitted by PTI Senator Aon Abbas Buppi, also called for regular access by Khan's private doctors and family. It was rejected via voice vote, despite opposition demands for a count.
The day before, a report to the Supreme Court by Barrister Salman Safdar stated Imran Khan lost 85% vision in his right eye due to delayed treatment. Opposition senators protested, calling the rejection inhumane.
Prime Minister's Adviser Rana Sanaullah disputed that treatment was delayed, saying Khan first complained in early January and has been examined repeatedly. He said medical care was prompt and documented. Sanaullah urged PTI to stop politicizing Khan's health and recommended raising concerns with the Supreme Court.
Senate opposition leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas appealed to treat Khan's health on humanitarian grounds and suggested lawmakers visit him for clarity. PTI Senator Ali Zafar accused the government of negligence and violations of constitutional rights, including life and dignity, demanding immediate hospital transfer with full access for family and specialists.
Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl's Kamran Murtaza echoed calls for hospital care or alternatives like parole or house detention. PTI Senator Dost Muhammad even offered to donate an eye to Khan, underlining the serious concern over his health.
The matter remains tense as political leaders clash over Khan's medical condition and rights while he remains in custody.
