Manipur Restores Internet in Ukhrul After Tribal Clash Ends
February 13, 2026
The Manipur government restored internet services in Ukhrul district on February 13, 2026. Mobile data and broadband had been suspended since February 10 in the hill district’s Litan area. The shutdown followed an assault that escalated into a clash between the Kuki-Zo and Naga tribes.
Ukhrul’s District Magistrate, Asish Das, told The Hindu, "The internet ban was lifted after a general understanding among the stakeholders to maintain peace." He explained the decision came after assessing the ground situation. "The State government facilitated the peace-building efforts of the district administration and the security forces," he added.
The conflict began on February 8 and lasted three days, during which more than 40 houses from both communities were burned. Some people were injured and treated at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal, the state capital.
The Litan area lies midway between Imphal and Ukhrul town, the district's administrative center.
