February 14, 2026
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) strongly condemned the suicide bombing at an imambargah in Islamabad on February 6. At least 38 people were killed and over 150 injured when a suicide bomber hit the Friday congregation at Imambargah Qasr-i-Khadijatul Kubra. The UNSC President James Kariuki called the attack a "heinous and cowardly suicide bombing terrorist attack." The Council expressed its "deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims and to the government and the people of Pakistan." It wished "a speedy and full recovery to those who were injured." Reaffirming its stand, the UNSC said terrorism in all forms is "one of the most serious threats to international peace and security." The members stressed holding accountable "perpetrators, organisers, financiers and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism" and urged states to cooperate with Pakistan "in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions." Earlier, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres condemned the attack, saying attacks on civilians and places of worship are "unacceptable," and those responsible "must be identified and brought to justice."
