On February 14, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi witnessed an impressive aerial show by the Indian Air Force at the Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) in Dibrugarh district, Assam. The ELF, 4.2 km long and the first of its kind in Northeast India, was inaugurated earlier that day. The 20-minute display featured IAF pilots performing precise take-offs and landings. A Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter jet led the show, followed by a Rafale aircraft. The An-32 helicopter, known for carrying cargo and passengers, performed a 'touch and go' maneuver. Three Sukhoi-30 MKIs and three Rafale jets flew in quick succession over Moran. Some of these jets landed at ELF while others executed overshoot maneuvers. The indigenous Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) performed Special Heli-Borne Operations by dropping commandos at the airstrip. Another ALH formation displayed relief and medical evacuation techniques. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said about 16 aircraft took part in this elaborate exercise. Built at a cost of nearly Rs 100 crore, the ELF was developed with IAF cooperation. It supports both military and civil aircraft during emergencies. The facility is located on Moran Bypass and aims to boost quick response and emergency operations in the region. This demonstration highlighted India’s growing defence preparedness and specific regional focus in the northeast.
