PM Shehbaz Sharif Unveils Rs38 Billion Ramazan Relief Package for 1.21 Million Families
February 14, 2026
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a Rs38 billion Ramazan Relief Package on Saturday. The funds will support 1.21 million families across all four provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu Kashmir. "Rs38bn will be disbursed through digital bank accounts among 1.21 million families, without discrimination," said the prime minister. Each eligible family will receive Rs13,000 via digital wallet or bank transfer. Of the total amount, Rs10 billion is set aside for families already registered in the government's Kafalat programme. The prime minister called this "the biggest effort at the federal level in terms of volume and challenges for the month of Ramazan." He highlighted efforts to avoid past issues like poor quality food and long queues at utility stores, which "compromised the dignity of deserving people." The new system uses digital cash transfers to replace old, corrupt methods. PM Shehbaz said there were challenges with banking participation and a developing cashless economy, but progress is improving with better performance targets this year. The relief amount for families not in other support programs has increased from Rs5,000 to Rs13,000. The State Bank of Pakistan has issued a secure framework to ensure fast, transparent payments. The prime minister also thanked international partners for their support, saying, "Together we will achieve this landmark." He promised ongoing reviews to ensure the programme's success.
