Ten-month-old Aalin Sherin Abraham passed away but gave life to five others through organ donation. She is the youngest organ donor in Kerala. Her parents decided to donate her organs, keeping her memory alive in a noble way. Aalin will be buried with State honours at St. Thomas CSI Church, Nedungadappally on Sunday evening. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan praised the parents' supreme sacrifice. Her liver and two kidneys were transported by ambulance to Thiruvananthapuram on Friday night. The organs were transplanted within hours into two children waiting for a transplant. The liver went to six-month-old Dhriya at KIMSHEALTH. Dhriya had severe liver failure caused by Primary Biliary Atresia. She had a previous surgery but needed a transplant. The hospital said Dhriya is stable and improving. Aalin’s two kidneys, each 5 cm, were transplanted into a 10-year-old girl at SAT Hospital. The girl suffered from severe kidney failure and had been on dialysis. Susan Uthup, head of Paediatric Nephrology, said, "A 10-year-old child needs kidneys of 8-10 cm, so both kidneys were transplanted." The transplant started at 11 p.m. and ended by 5:45 a.m. The girl is recovering well with improving kidney function. Dr. Uthup added, "This was a very unusual event, for an infant’s kidneys to be donated and both transplanted in a young child. The gift by Aalin’s parents is beyond words." The kidney surgery was done by a team at Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram, including pediatric specialists. Additionally, Aalin’s heart valves were sent to Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for future use and her corneas went to Amrita Institute’s eye bank.
