West Bengal’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) on February 14, 2026, said that 4.98 lakh voters did not attend the special intensive revision (SIR) hearings. Additionally, 1.63 lakh voters were marked ineligible due to errors. The SIR hearings ended on the same day after a 7-day extension given by the Election Commission (EC). Manoj Kumar Agarwal, West Bengal CEO, said, "For the people whose names are in the draft roll but their names did not feature in the final roll, they will all get an order. Then, they will have a chance to make an appeal to the District Election Officer, and then to the CEO. They can always get their names back [on the rolls] if they were removed due to errors." He confirmed that all SIR hearings in the state have been completed within the extended deadline. Agarwal added fresh inclusions are still possible through Form 6 applications during upcoming elections. Those who missed hearings or are flagged as ineligible could be removed from the 2026 final voter list. After the draft electoral rolls, about 58 lakh voters were deleted for reasons like death, shifting, or untraceability. Over 94.49 lakh people faced hearings over logical discrepancies, and 31.68 lakh classified as "unmapped" were also summoned. Before the SIR exercise, West Bengal had 7,66,37,529 registered electors. The draft list included 7,08,16,630 names. Speaking to Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant EROs, Agarwal said, "It is now all on them to do their jobs without fear or favour so we can get a clean voter list in West Bengal, which does not remove any valid voter but also does not add any fake or illegal voter." He emphasized the need to verify documents carefully and follow EC guidelines. The CEO’s office also received 42,501 Form 7 submissions, but no decision on these deletions has been announced yet. The final voter list is expected to be published by February 28, followed by the announcement of election dates. The 2026 West Bengal State Assembly elections are likely in the coming months.
