US Army Strikes Over 30 ISIL Targets in Syria, Killing 50+ Fighters in Operation Hawkeye
February 15, 2026
The US Army has launched strikes against more than 30 ISIL targets in Syria. This was in response to ISIL killing two US soldiers and an American civilian interpreter last December. The operation, named Hawkeye, has killed and captured more than 50 ISIL fighters so far. It targeted about 100 ISIL infrastructure and weapons sites between February 3 and 12. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the strikes used “precision munitions” to hit ISIL’s facilities. CENTCOM stated the attacks aim to “sustain relentless military pressure on remnants from the terrorist network.” The killed soldiers were Sergeant Edgar Brian Torres-Tovar and Sergeant William Nathaniel Howard. The interpreter killed was Ayad Mansoor Sakat. Separately, the US military completed transferring thousands of ISIL detainees from Syria to Iraq last Friday. These prisoners will face trial in Iraq, as requested by Baghdad. The US-led coalition, which fought ISIL for years, welcomed this move. Meanwhile, Syria’s Ministry of Defence confirmed that government forces took control of the al-Tanf military base. The base had been run by US troops fighting ISIL for years. The US-led coalition worked with Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) against ISIL, which lost its territory in Syria in 2019. Now, Washington says its alliance with the SDF is mostly over. The US withdrawal from al-Tanf allows Damascus to extend control over all Syrian territory.
