Saudi Authorities Penalize Sponsors for Visit Visa Overstays with Fines, Jail, Deportation
February 15, 2026
Saudi authorities have announced strict penalties for sponsors who fail to report visit visa holders that overstay in the Kingdom. The Public Security department warned that sponsors not reporting overstays could face heavy fines up to SR50,000, imprisonment for up to six months, or deportation if the sponsor is a non-Saudi resident. Officials called on citizens and residents to immediately report any visitor staying beyond their permitted visa period.
The warning comes with official data showing 19,559 administrative decisions were issued in the month of Rajab 1447AH (2026) for violations including residency, labor, and border security rules. These penalties included prison terms, fines, and deportations according to existing laws.
The Passports Directorate also advised the public, including business owners, not to transport, employ, or shelter visa violators. Authorities stressed that hiding or assisting overstayers in employment, housing, or travel could lead to legal consequences.
Officials urged everyone to cooperate with enforcement efforts and assured that all reports of violations would be handled confidentially without legal risk to the informants. The clear message is that visa overstays are taken seriously, and responsibility lies both with the visitors and their sponsors.
