Two men accused of shooting at migrant labourers in Punjab's Moga district were caught after a gun battle with police on Sunday, February 15, 2026. Jobanpreet was hit by a bullet in his leg, while his partner Akashdeep was also arrested near Ghalkalan village. Police had a tip-off about their location and stopped them on a motorcycle. The suspects opened fire, but no police officers were injured as the police returned fire. The police recovered the motorcycle used in the crime along with two weapons, four empty shells, and one live round. They fired four to five shots at police during the encounter. These two men, along with a third accomplice still at large, had allegedly attacked migrant workers on February 10 on instructions from a foreign-based handler. Their goal, according to Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Gandhi, was "to disturb peace in Punjab." Two other men from Ferozepur district have been arrested for allegedly sheltering the accused. The shooting happened on Zira road as workers were going for their meal after work. One of the three attackers fired shots, while another filmed the attack. An Instagram post claiming responsibility blamed migrant workers from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar and threatened more violence if they were not removed from Punjab. Opposition parties criticized the AAP government, urging Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to act against those creating societal divisions. Police investigations and the manhunt for the remaining accused continue.
