Bollineni Hillside Cuts ₹10 Lakh Electric Bill With Record 194 kW Solar System
February 15, 2026
Bollineni Hillside Phase I in Perumbakkam covers 45 acres and has 1,295 homes. The large community is split into north and south, each with its own sewage treatment and water treatment plant (STP-WTP). These plants use a lot of electricity, leading to a huge ₹10 lakh monthly electricity bill, says Sajeev Kumar, president of the community’s owner association BHRTOA.
To save costs, Bollineni Hillside launched a solar power project in January 2026. They installed two solar systems of 97 kW each—one for the north STP-WTP and one for the south, totalling 194 kW. This split helps keep energy charges low by staying under 100 kW for each unit.
This smart move won BHRTOA an award from the Tamil Nadu Solar Energy Developers Association (TNSEDA) for the largest solar setup in the RWA (Residents Welfare Association) category across Tamil Nadu.
K. Thirugnanam, BHRTOA secretary and advocate, said the community's diverse expertise helped. A retired Tamil Nadu Electricity Board official who lives there gave advice on tricky rules about load limits and fixed charges.
Choosing the right vendor was tough. After many visits and research, BHRTOA found Vesat Renewables Private Limited through the Federation of OMR Residents Association (FOMRRA). Vesat has decades of solar experience and was the only vendor that understood RWA benefits like the PM Surya Ghar Scheme solar subsidy.
Sajeev Kumar praised the vendor’s ability to handle subsidy paperwork efficiently. The solar project now cuts large electricity bills and sets a shining example for other communities looking to save energy and costs.
