On Sunday, forest officials found a male tiger, about 5-6 years old, dead near Gundal reservoir in Biligiri Ranganathaswamy Temple (BRT) Tiger Reserve, Chamarajanagar. Deputy Conservator of Forests and Director of BRT Tiger Reserve said the tiger might have been caught in a snare trap and died near the water's edge. Senior officials, including nominees from the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), were called to inspect the site. Local police are also involved. A wildlife offence case has been registered and the investigation is ongoing. The Standard Technical Guidance and Monitoring Committee will conduct a post-mortem on the tiger. The carcass will then be disposed of as per NTCA guidelines.
