GUWAHATI: A forest home guard was killed and another injured when a rhinoceros attacked them in Kaziranga National Park on Sunday, February 15, 2026. The incident happened around noon near Bordoloni Camp in the park's Kohora Range during a routine patrol. "Sahabuddin, a home guard, succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to a hospital at Kohora for emergency treatment," said Arun Vignesh C.S., Kaziranga's Deputy Director. The other guard, Ramen Borah, was treated first at Kohora medical facility and then taken to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital, about 90 km away. Doctors said he is under medical observation. Officials said this incident highlights the risks that frontline forest staff face as they protect wildlife and conserve the rhino habitat. Kaziranga is a UNESCO World Heritage site with a core area of 430 sq. km.
