UK Brace for More Flooding, Rain and Snow Next Week
February 16, 2026
The UK is set for more heavy rain and flooding next week. The Environment Agency has issued 73 flood warnings, mostly for the south-west of England and the Midlands. There are also 177 flood alerts warning of possible flooding across England. Natural Resources Wales reported two flood alerts in South Pembrokeshire and the Lower Severn catchment in Powys. The Met Office said blustery showers will spread overnight Sunday with cold temperatures and frost in the north. Monday will bring some sun, heavy rain, hail, thunderstorms, and snow in the far north. Tuesday should be mainly drier and brighter. Rain and snow risks will return in the south on Wednesday and Thursday, while the north stays mostly dry. Although no weather warnings are out now, the Met Office may issue them later as conditions change. January was one of the wettest on record for parts of the UK. Northern Ireland had its wettest January in 149 years, and southern England had its sixth wettest since 1836. Some areas like Devon, Cornwall, and Worcestershire had rain 40 days straight. Storms Goretti, Ingrid, and Chandra have caused flooding and trouble for people and businesses, especially in Devon and Somerset. The wet weather is expected to continue next weekend with longer rain spells on Friday and beyond. The Met Office says the weather will stay unsettled but with some dry spells between rain systems.
