The holiday date was set by the Uniform Holidays Act of 1968, moving the celebration to the third Monday in February to create longer weekends. President Lyndon B. Johnson signed this act to help Americans travel and enjoy more of the country. Presidents Day combines the celebrations of George Washington’s February 22 birthday and Abraham Lincoln’s on February 12, honoring all US presidents though the official name remains "Washington's Birthday."
