Tom Homan, the White House border tsar, announced that more than 1,000 ICE agents have left Minnesota's Twin Cities as part of scaling down 'Operation Metro Surge.' Hundreds more will depart soon. Despite the removal, a small immigration enforcement team will remain in the area. Homan said, "We already removed well over 1,000 people, and as of Monday, Tuesday, we’ll remove several hundred more. We’ll get back to the original footprint." This operation was the largest immigration enforcement effort by the Department of Homeland Security but faced criticism after the deaths of two US citizens, Renee Good and Alex Pretti, and rising protests. Homan confirmed investigations into fraud and anti-immigration protests will continue. Although the number of agents is decreasing, mass deportations will still happen nationwide. Agents leaving Minnesota will return to their stations or be reassigned. When asked about future efforts, Homan stated, "It depends on the situation."
