11 Palestinians Killed in Israeli Attacks Amid Gaza Ceasefire Violation; Trump Plans ‘Board of Peace’ Meeting
February 16, 2026
At least 11 Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks across Gaza on Sunday, hospital sources said. Israeli forces targeted tents in the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza, killing five Palestinians. Another five died in strikes west of Khan Younis in the south. Sami al-Dahdouh, a commander of Palestinian Islamic Jihad’s armed wing, was also killed in an attack in Gaza City’s Tal al-Hawa neighbourhood.
Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem called the attacks a “new massacre” and a “criminal escalation.” He said the strikes attempt to "impose a bloody reality on the ground" and make calm efforts meaningless. Israeli attacks have killed more than 600 Palestinians and wounded over 1,600 since the US- and Qatar-mediated ceasefire began on October 10, 2025.
The Gaza Government Media Office says Israel has violated the ceasefire 1,620 times up to February 10, 2026. Israel also accuses Hamas of breaking the truce and says four Israeli soldiers have been killed.
In a related development, US President Donald Trump announced the first meeting of his newly created “Board of Peace” will occur on Thursday in Washington, DC. Trump said board members pledged over $5 billion to rebuild Gaza and will send thousands of personnel to maintain security.
The US is asking countries to pay $1 billion to join the board, with reports that the UAE and possibly Kuwait have already pledged. Trump emphasized that "Hamas must uphold its commitment to Full and Immediate Demilitarization.”
Hazem Qassem urged the Board of Peace to pressure Israel to stop ceasefire violations and enforce the agreement swiftly.
