Israel Bombs Vehicle Near Lebanon-Syria Border, Killing Four
February 16, 2026
Israeli forces bombed a vehicle near Lebanon’s border with Syria early Monday. At least four people were killed, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health. The Lebanese National News Agency said one victim was a Syrian named Khaled Mohammad al-Ahmad. The Israeli military confirmed the air strike on social media, stating it targeted members of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) in Lebanon. The strike happened in Majdal Anjar, Lebanon. Israel did not provide proof for its claim. There was no immediate response from the PIJ. PIJ is a militant group allied with Hamas and Lebanon’s Hezbollah. Hezbollah had attacked northern Israel in 2023 to support Palestinians. Israel and Hezbollah agreed to a ceasefire in November 2024. However, Israel has carried out near-daily strikes on Lebanon since then, breaking the US-brokered truce. The United Nations reported over 10,000 Israeli attacks after the ceasefire. UN rights officials confirmed at least 108 civilian casualties, including 21 women and 16 children. Eleven Lebanese civilians were also abducted by Israel last year. Lebanon filed a complaint with the UN Security Council last month, urging action against Israeli violations. The complaint noted Israel broke Lebanon's sovereignty over 2,000 times in late 2025. Israel still holds five areas in Lebanese land, blocking rebuilding and refugee returns.
