Power Restored After 4-Hour Outage Hits 760 Flats in Hong Kong's Kwai Chung Estate
February 16, 2026
Electricity was restored at 1.30am Monday after a power outage plunged about 760 flats at Ha Kwai House, Kwai Chung Estate, into darkness. CLP Power said the outage began at 9.13pm on Sunday due to a suspected equipment fault triggered by a water leak. The power trip lasted four hours before CLP staff confirmed power facilities were working normally. Building electricians performed emergency repairs. Most of the building was in complete darkness except stairwells and some lobby areas. Many residents had to wait outside. At 9.41pm, an elderly woman called for help because her breathing machine was losing power. Firefighters sent an ambulance, but she did not need hospital care.
