The average yearly income of South Korean YouTubers has risen by 25% over four years, reaching about US$49,000 in 2024. This sharp rise followed a spike in political broadcasts after the 2024 martial law decree. Experts warn about the need for stricter tax oversight. In 2024, the top 1% of creators, which includes 348 people, earned a total of 450.1 billion won. Each top creator made an average of 1.29 billion won, a 70% increase from 2020. The top 10% earned a combined 1.15 trillion won, averaging 333 million won each. Meanwhile, the bottom 50% earned a total of 428.6 billion won, about 24.63 million won per person. Creators in their 30s earned around half of all YouTube income. Creators in their 40s had the highest average earnings of 86.75 million won. Park, a tax expert, said, "Authorities must continuously monitor and thoroughly verify any attempts to conceal income generated on YouTube or evade taxes," and added calls for stronger control of harmful content.
