Ahead of Tamil Nadu’s interim Budget scheduled for February 17, 2026, the Legal Coordination Committee for Government Doctors (LCC) has called on the State government to double the number of posts for doctors, nurses, and medical staff. On Sunday, February 15, committee president S. Perumal Pillai stated that although more than 100 primary health centres and government hospitals have opened since the DMK took office, no new posts have been created to support them. The committee highlighted that transferring doctors and nurses from existing hospitals to new facilities is stretching both staff and patients. Ammampettai and Kandiaperi government hospitals were named as examples where staff were reassigned without sanctioning fresh posts. The LCC also pointed out that long-standing demands like implementing G.O. 354 on pay parity have not been addressed. It noted that MBBS doctors in Tamil Nadu earn less than their counterparts in other states. The committee demanded doubling of sanctioned posts, placement in pay band-4 after 12 years of service, and a government job for the wife of Dr. Vivekanandan, who died while on COVID duty.
