The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has fined Snapdeal ₹5 lakh for selling toys that do not meet the required Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification. This violates the Toys (Quality Control) Order, 2020. CCPA Chief Commissioner Nidhi Khare told PTI that a final order has been issued against Snapdeal (Ace Vector Limited) after taking suo-motu cognizance of the issue. The CCPA has also sent notices to other leading e-commerce platforms like Amazon and Flipkart, along with sellers such as Stallion Trading Company and Electronics Bazar Store. Besides the penalty, Snapdeal must ensure that no toys without BIS certification are listed, hosted, or advertised on its platform in the future. The company is also required to prominently display contact numbers, email addresses, and Grievance Officer details to help consumers with prompt redressal. The Toys (Quality Control) Order, 2020, made BIS certification mandatory for all toys sold in India starting January 1, 2021.
