Alibaba Cloud has introduced Qwen-3.5, its next-generation open artificial intelligence model. The company launched two versions on Monday via its cloud platform Model Studio. The open-source Qwen-3.5 model has 397 billion parameters and shows better performance than Alibaba’s earlier Qwen-3-Max-Thinking model with over 1 trillion parameters. Benchmark tests place Qwen-3.5 on par with leading AI models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google DeepMind, though not compared with their very latest versions. Alibaba also released a closed-source version called Qwen-3.5-Plus. It matches state-of-the-art models and can process up to 1 million tokens at a time, one of the largest context windows in the AI industry. These releases come amid a busy week for Chinese AI developers ahead of the Lunar New Year, highlighting Alibaba’s goal to lead the next phase of global AI technology deployment.
