Telangana Launches First Mobile App for Urea Booking to Stop Hoarding
February 16, 2026
The Telangana government has launched a mobile app to book urea fertilizer, becoming the first state in India to do so. This new app aims to stop hoarding and panic buying by farmers who wait in long queues during busy farming seasons. Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao said that by February 14, about 12.73 lakh farmers booked 50.48 lakh urea bags through the app. Of these, 46.13 lakh bags were purchased, showing strong acceptance.
The app brings convenience and transparency. Earlier, urea was given only after Aadhaar verification, but there was no check if the buyer owned land or was actively farming. This caused crowding at shops, panic buying, and hoarding during peak seasons. Farmers often visited shops many times without knowing if stock was available.
The new system works like booking movie tickets online. Farmers can see real-time stock, book fertilizer via phone, and collect it after confirmation. This avoids waiting in long lines and uncertainty. It also links booking to land ownership, crop type, and university recommendations, ensuring only genuine farmers get the right amount.
The app sets the quantity a farmer can book based on their crops and land size. It releases fertilizer in phases, encouraging better farming practices. This digital move is a big step to make fertilizer supply fair, smooth, and farmer-friendly in Telangana.
