A woman died and five others were seriously hurt when a car plunged into a gorge at a forest area in Turakamitta village, Chittoor district, on Monday morning. The victims were returning from the Mahasivaratri celebrations held at Sadasiva Kona hillock near Puttur in Tirupati district. According to Karveti Nagaram police, the driver lost control while taking a sharp hairpin bend, causing the vehicle to fall into the gorge. Local people, forest staff, and police rushed to the scene to help rescue the injured. The woman, identified as Devaki, aged 45, died on the spot. Her body was taken to the Government Hospital in Puttur for post-mortem. The five injured were taken to the Community Health Centre at Karveti Nagaram. Their condition is stable and not critical. The Karveti Nagaram police have registered a case and started investigating the accident.
