The Palestinian militant group Hamas used emojis to signal their fighters to begin the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel, Israeli media reported on Monday. The TV channel N12 cited the Israeli army as its source. Military officials did not immediately confirm the report. Emojis were found on mobile phones belonging to Hamas’ elite Nukhba Forces, seized by Israel on the attack day. The exact emojis have not been revealed. During the assault, Hamas and other extremist groups killed over 1,200 people in Israel and took more than 250 hostages in Gaza. According to The Jerusalem Post, Hamas fighters moved to mosques or set meeting points in Gaza after receiving the emoji signals.
