ICE Detains Indian-Origin Man Accused of Sexual Assault, Shoplifting in New Jersey
February 17, 2026
The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested Vodela Yashaswi Kottapalli, an Indian-origin man facing multiple charges in New Jersey. The accusations include sexual assault of a child under 13, shoplifting, and public disorder. ICE called him a "criminal illegal alien from India" on their official X post. "Vodela Yashaswi Kottapalli, a criminal illegal alien from India, has pending charges for sexual assault and larceny in New Jersey. We'll keep him in custody pending removal proceedings," ICE stated. He remains detained as removal proceedings continue. This arrest comes during an intensified phase of ICE enforcement against undocumented migrants under Donald Trump's second term. ICE has been publicly releasing information about arrests involving foreign nationals accused of crimes. Earlier, in December, ICE revealed details about another Indian-origin truck driver involved in a fatal motorway crash in Oregon. That man had entered the US illegally and later gained work authorisation and a commercial driving license in California. Similar crashes in Florida and California involving undocumented Indian lorry drivers have also been reported recently. ICE continues to focus on immigration enforcement amid ongoing political debates and funding challenges.
