Kempegowda Airport Ships 60 Million Roses, Sees 38% Export Growth This Valentine’s
February 17, 2026
The Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru shipped about 60 million rose stems weighing over 2,700 metric tonnes this Valentine’s season. These stems were sent to 26 international and 47 domestic destinations. Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) said this marks a 38% yearly rise in volume and a 64% rise in weight, keeping KIA as India’s leading hub for perishable exports for five years straight. International rose shipments stayed steady at 305 metric tonnes, with Singapore as the top overseas destination. Other top spots include Kuala Lumpur, Abu Dhabi, New York, and Kuwait. New international destinations this season were Los Angeles, Dallas Fort Worth, Orlando (US), London Gatwick (UK), and Toronto (Canada). On the domestic front, 2,402 metric tonnes of roses were moved, a 79% increase from last year. Delhi and Kolkata led demand, while Guwahati, Mumbai, and Jaipur also showed strong activity. Kolkata, Mumbai, Chandigarh, and Lucknow recorded over 150% growth compared to last season. BIAL credited this growth to the airport’s expanded cargo facilities. Their advanced cold chain technology keeps roses fresh by controlling temperature and providing real-time shipment tracking. This infrastructure slashes delays and protects perishables from damage during handling and transport.
