LAHORE: A suspected serial killer accused of kidnapping and murdering at least four people was killed during an encounter with the Gujranwala police on Tuesday. The suspect was arrested while trying to flee from Lahore to Karachi by train and was in police custody. Police were taking him to a location he identified to recover a murder weapon when four armed accomplices attacked the police to free him. The assailants fired at police, but the suspect was killed by his own accomplices' gunfire while trying to escape. The attackers fled the scene. The suspect's body was moved to Gujranwala District Headquarters Hospital for an autopsy. A case has been filed against the attackers, and police investigations are ongoing. Earlier, Gujranwala City Police Officer Dr Ghias Gul stated that police had found two unidentified bodies—a 32-year-old woman and her five-year-old son—on February 10 near Citi Housing Society. Both were killed with a sharp weapon. The suspect confessed to killing the woman and her two children, including her eight-month-old daughter, to steal gold earrings. Police also linked the suspect to the December 20 murder of a 13-year-old boy. The suspect was caught by a special investigation team while fleeing. Police have registered cases and are continuing investigations.
