Hong Kong Airport’s Second Terminal to Open Fully on May 27 Serving 15 Airlines
February 17, 2026
Hong Kong airport’s second terminal will fully open on May 27. It will serve as the base for 15 airlines, mainly handling regional flights. This new terminal is part of the airport’s HK$141.5 billion (US$18.1 billion) expansion project started in 2016, which also included a third runway. The terminal’s coach hall opened in September. Fred Lam Tin-fuk, chairman of the Airport Authority, said the first terminal mainly handles long-haul flights and is very busy. He explained that the second terminal will “share some of the flight load”. He added, “The design philosophy for the entire Terminal 2 aims to be more vibrant, youthful and technologically forward-thinking. It will introduce new self-service facilities and incorporate numerous smart technologies.” He also highlighted the new dining options by saying, “We have also introduced a wide range of new dining options, which I believe will appeal to everyone.” Transport and logistics minister Mable Chan said the two terminals will complement each other and “greatly enhance” the airport’s capacity. Airlines expected to operate from the second terminal include Hong Kong Airlines, HK Express, and Greater Bay Airlines.
