Russia and Ukraine held their third round of peace talks in Geneva as Russian attacks on Ukraine continued fiercely. The talks are part of US efforts to end the war, but chances of a breakthrough remain low. Just hours before the meeting, Russia launched a massive aerial attack, hitting 12 regions of Ukraine with 400 drones and nearly 30 missiles. At least three people died, and many were injured. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said the attacks showed "the extent to which Russia disregards peace efforts." Russia claimed its air defences shot down over 150 drones. An oil refinery caught fire after a Ukrainian drone strike in Russia’s Krasnodar region. The talks are led by US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Ukraine’s team includes Rustem Umerov and Kyrylo Budanov, while Russia is represented by Vladimir Medinsky and military officials. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, "I don't think we should expect any news today," and talks would continue. US President Donald Trump urged Ukraine to "come to the table fast." Russia controls about 20% of Ukraine, demanding large territorial concessions which Ukraine rejects. Kyiv wants strong Western security guarantees first. Recent Russian strikes severely damaged power infrastructure, especially in Odesa, leaving many without electricity amid the cold winter. Ukraine faces an acute energy crisis due to ongoing Russian attacks. More than ten homes and railway facilities were damaged. Ukraine hit back with drone strikes on Russian border areas, setting fire to an oil refinery and storage facility. The talks follow earlier ones in Abu Dhabi with no major progress except some prisoner exchanges. The conflict enters its fourth year with fighting and diplomatic efforts continuing side by side.
