NCP(SP) Pathanamthitta District Committee Leaves Party, Joins Kerala Congress
February 17, 2026
The Nationalist Congress Party - Sharadchandra Pawar (NCP-SP) is losing ground in Kerala. The entire district committee of NCP(SP) in Pathanamthitta has disbanded and joined the Kerala Congress led by P.J. Joseph. District president Jiji Vattasseril led several key leaders, including district secretary Muhammad Sali and Nationalist Youth Congress State general secretary Nizam Mohammed, out of the party. Mr. Vattasseril said the committee unanimously decided to leave after deep discussions. He called NCP(SP)'s current functioning “disappointing.” Even as part of the ruling front, he said the party had failed to deliver real benefits to ordinary people. He explained that the party’s national-level confusion also affects its state leadership. “The party lacks internal democracy and respect for district-level leaders,” said Mr. Vattasseril. He added, “As district president, when decisions are made together, top leaders either ignore them or act without basic political understanding.” Mr. Vattasseril also accused senior NCP leader and Forest Minister A.K. Saseendran of not handling the rising wild animal threats properly. He said similar resignations are happening in Kannur, Thrissur, and Thiruvananthapuram districts. He stressed, “We are leaving a ruling party not for posts, but to uphold the dignity of our workers and the people who stand with us.” The move aims to support grassroots workers, farmers, traders, and citizens disappointed with the party’s leadership.
