A review meeting was held on Monday, February 16, 2026, at the Collectorate to fight the spread of narcotic drugs and banned tobacco products near schools and colleges. Collector S. Kandasamy, who led the meeting, said stringent action has already been taken. "As many as 49 First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered and 30 cases have been booked under the Goondas Act," he said. Eighteen shops selling narcotic substances have been sealed. The Collector directed all schools and colleges to ensure that students and staff download the “Drug Free Tamil Nadu” mobile app to help monitor and raise awareness. Coordinators were told to watch local shops closely and report any violations immediately. The meeting included Assistant Director (Prohibition) Thiagarajan, Food Safety Designated Officer Varalakshmi, District Deputy Superintendent of Police Sukumar, school and college coordinators, and other officials.
