FIR Filed Against Assam BJP Social Media Heads Over Edited Video of CM Sarma
February 17, 2026
The High Grounds police have registered an FIR against Biswajith Khaund and Ron Bikash Gourav, convenor and co-convenor of Assam BJP's social media accounts. The case arose after they posted an edited video that showed Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shooting a group of men from a minority community.
The video was posted on February 7 and was found objectionable and provocative. It was deleted later. The complaint came from Ranjith Kumar, an officebearer of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, who said the video could disturb public peace and promote enmity.
Chief Minister Sarma denied any knowledge of the video. The FIR cites charges under Sections 192 and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. These sections deal with provoking riots and circulating false information to incite hatred between groups.
The police are investigating this serious case of social media misuse and potential public disturbance.
