On February 17, Mysuru police crushed 378 defective and modified silencers from two-wheelers using a road roller near Old Siddharthanagar police station. These silencers were seized in January during National Road Safety Month inspections. The city police confirmed the silencers were “legally destroyed” following legal action under the Indian Motor Vehicles (IMV) Act against offending riders. A majority of the seizures came from V.V. Puram Traffic police station, which seized 200 silencers. Other police stations also contributed: K.R. Traffic police seized 59, N.R. Traffic police 50, Siddharthanagar 43, and Devaraja 26. These inspections were part of a special enforcement drive by Mysuru City Traffic police to curb stunt riding like wheeling. Four cases have been registered this year against persons performing wheeling. The city police warned that "Special enforcement drives will continue in the coming days against stunt riding and against two-wheelers using defective silencers, and legal action will be taken against those violating traffic rules."
