A family kept the body of a 50-year-old woman named Shailaja inside their rented apartment for four days, hoping their prayers would bring her back to life. Shailaja had been battling a chronic illness and passed away on February 13. Instead of arranging funeral rites, her body was brought to their flat at Sri Sai Bharadwaj Apartments. The family, including an 80-year-old woman and her three children, had lived there for 18 years. They reportedly preserved the body in a freezer and continued praying. Police officials said the family members appeared mentally distressed. After some days, a foul smell started spreading from the apartment. Neighbors alerted the police, who visited the scene and advised the family on legal and health issues. Following the police counselling, the family moved the body to their native village in Andhra Pradesh for proper final rites. Police confirmed no suspicious circumstances in Shailaja’s death. No criminal case has been registered.
