Bengaluru's Double-Decker Flyover Near Silk Board To Open Fully By February End
February 17, 2026
Nearly a year and a half after the major parts of Bengaluru’s double-decker flyover on the Namma Metro Yellow Line opened, key sections remain incomplete. The incomplete ramps limit the flyover’s ability to reduce traffic at the busy Central Silk Board junction.
The 5.12-km flyover, built by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) at a cost of ₹449 crore, aims to ease one of the city’s worst traffic bottlenecks. The main stretch from Ragigudda to Silk Board was opened in July 2024. However, important ramps linking HSR Layout with Ragigudda and BTM Layout are still under construction.
A vital 1.37-km ramp stretch connecting HSR Layout, Ragigudda, and BTM Layout remains closed. This delay means many commuters still rely on crowded surface roads.
A senior BMRCL official said, “We are currently completing the concrete slab casting and associated structural works on the remaining ramps. Our teams are working on a priority basis, and we are aiming to finish the civil components by the end of February. Once that is achieved, the stretch will be opened to traffic at the earliest.”
The delay was partly due to the complex installation of a 42-m steel bridge over the road near the metro viaduct. The flyover runs through key points such as Jayadeva Hospital, BTM Layout, and Silk Board junction, featuring five ramps in total.
Currently, ramps A, B, and C are operational. Ramp A connects Ragigudda metro station to Hosur Road. Ramp B splits from Ramp A towards HSR Layout. Ramp C links BTM Layout to Hosur Road and HSR Layout via Ramp A. Ramps D and E, which provide direct links between HSR Layout, Ragigudda, and BTM Layout, remain unfinished.
Daily commuters are frustrated. Sreekar Prasad from Ragigudda said, “Because the ramps are incomplete, we are still forced to use the crowded surface roads, especially near BTM Layout and Silk Board. If BMRCL manages to open the remaining stretch by February, it will greatly benefit those of us travelling from the HSR Layout side. At present, we are stuck in heavy traffic during peak hours due to the unfinished work.”
Officials remain hopeful that the full flyover will be operational by the end of this month, finally easing the infamous traffic gridlock at Central Silk Board.
