Opposition and Imran Khan's Family Reject Interior Minister's Claim on Former PM's Health Checkup

ISLAMABAD: Opposition coalition Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-i-Pakistan (TTAP) and jailed PTI founder Imran Khan's sisters strongly denied Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi's explanation of the former PM's recent medical checkup. Naqvi held a press briefing claiming the government did not want to politicise Imran's health. He said a team of top government and private doctors examined Imran at Adiala jail Sunday and the medical report showed no issues. Naqvi invited PTI leaders and doctors to witness the checkup and also arranged a discussion with PTI-recommended doctors, who expressed satisfaction with the treatment. However, Naqvi blamed Imran’s sister Aleema Khan for delaying the checkup for three days and claimed political motives behind protests and road blockades in support of Imran. He said the government is ready to hospitalise Imran for up to two weeks if doctors recommend it. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry added that Imran will get injections soon and treatment will continue under top doctors in Islamabad/Rawalpindi. In contrast, TTAP called Naqvi's statements misleading and said the government is hiding Imran’s worsening health and poor treatment. They demanded Imran’s personal doctors be present at all exams and called his prolonged solitary confinement torture by international standards. Imran’s sisters Aleema, Uzma, and Noreen also dismissed Naqvi's version at a press conference. Aleema said Imran complained about his eye condition and requested sharing medical tests with his personal physicians. She also accused jail officials of neglect and said the government broke an assurance to transfer Imran to Shifa International Hospital. Uzma criticized the doctors who wrote the official report and questioned the nature of injections given in jail. PTI accused Naqvi of implying possible harm to Imran in custody, calling the statement alarming and raising concerns of mistreatment amid lack of transparency and family access. The controversy highlights deep distrust between the government and opposition over the health and treatment of the jailed former prime minister.
