The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), working with the Indian Coast Guard, caught two Iranian nationals on a speedboat carrying more than 200 kg of a white powdery substance. The interception happened on Monday night, February 16, about 140 nautical miles off the Porbandar coast. Authorities found 203 packets of the substance onboard. Officials said, "The packets containing a white powder have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for examination. The substance could not be identified using the primary heroin detection kit." The two men, Abdul Majid and Abdul Sattar from Chabahar, Iran, are suspected to have traveled directly from Iran to Indian waters. Police said the journey "is quite daring" because speedboats rarely travel such long distances. According to the ATS, they got a tip-off that an Iranian smuggler named Haji Fida sent the consignment from Konarak Port in Iran intended for delivery in Indian waters. The plan was to receive the shipment mid-sea and later take it to Punjab. Officials noted, "It appears to be a new modus operandi adopted by Iranian smugglers, as speedboats have a higher chance of evading Coast Guard vessels." Two mobile phones were seized from the suspects; their data is being analyzed. Officials mentioned that the language barrier has made early questioning difficult. Such cases of travel by speedboat from Iran are rare, with only two reported in the past four years. The investigation is ongoing.
