A tragic shooting happened at a Rhode Island high school hockey game on Monday afternoon at Dennis M Lynch Arena in Pawtucket. Three people died, including the suspect, and three were injured. Pawtucket police chief Tina Goncalves said the shooting appears to be a "targeted event" linked to a family dispute. "It appears that a lone individual, the suspect, entered the arena to watch the hockey game of a family member. And unfortunately, during that time, a shooting occurred," Goncalves said. The suspect was 56-year-old Robert Dorgan and likely died from a self-inflicted gunshot, confirmed Goncalves. Local media reported one victim was the suspect's son. The police chief added, "The police were not involved" in killing the suspect. The attack was reportedly livestreamed online, showing roughly a dozen shots. The video was later removed. During the shooting, a bystander stepped in and tried to stop the suspect, which led to the incident ending quickly. One nearby player, Olin Lawrence, told NBC, "I was on the ice, and I thought it was balloons at first... It was very scary." The Rhode Island Interscholastic League suspended all games following the event. State Governor Dan McKee expressed his heartbreak, saying, "My heart breaks for the victims, families, students and everyone impacted by the devastating shooting at Lynch Arena in Pawtucket. I am praying for Rhode Island." Mental health resources are being offered to those affected as the investigation continues.
