The Andhra Pradesh government has sanctioned ₹150.09 crore to replace the gates of the Dowleswaram Barrage on the Godavari river. Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu told the Legislative Assembly that this barrage is the ‘lifeline’ of the Godavari delta. It irrigates over 10 lakh acres and supplies water for drinking and industries. In 2014, 58 out of 175 gates were replaced at a cost of ₹31.77 crore. The current government plans to replace the remaining 117 gates in phases. This will ensure water supply continues without interruption by using stop-log gates. The Minister criticized the previous YSR Congress Party government for ignoring warnings from the Central Water Commission. He praised Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for focusing on the barrage’s safety and modernization. In addition, ₹13.4 crore has been allocated for flood management. This fund will prepare a Detailed Project Report and conduct an aerial LiDAR survey to study structural concerns in the Godavari Delta. The Minister also spoke about the Rallapadu Reservoir in Prakasam district. It holds 1.10 tmc ft of water and irrigates 16,000 acres while providing drinking water to 116 villages. Although ₹36.50 crore was sanctioned to expand the left canal, works were cancelled. In December 2024, technical glitches blocked water release even when the reservoir was full. Motors were later installed to fix this. The government spent ₹2.54 crore on repairs and canal work and plans 190 minor irrigation projects costing ₹10.86 crore in Kandukur constituency to improve irrigation facilities.
