LAHORE: A girl student at Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) died after falling from the fourth floor of the girls' hostel on Tuesday night. The student, who was from Azad Jammu and Kashmir, was living in the government hostel. Fellow students found her in a pool of blood and alerted the college management immediately. She suffered multiple head and neck injuries, along with bone fractures. The student was taken to the emergency ward of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and then shifted for a major neurosurgery. FJMU Vice Chancellor Prof Khalid Masood Gondal said her condition was critical. Despite the surgery by senior doctors, she succumbed to her injuries. According to Prof Gondal, the incident happened at the FJMU girls' hostel where she accidentally fell from the building. A medical board and a five-member fact-finding panel led by Dean Undergraduates Prof Bilquis Shabbir have been formed to investigate the incident. They will submit their report within 24 hours. While the official line points to an accidental fall, some eyewitnesses and institute sources claim she jumped deliberately to end her life. At present, no reason for her extreme step is known. Earlier, two students, including a female from a private university in Raiwind, had also jumped from hostel buildings.
