The ENT Department at Government General Hospital (GGH), Ongole, organised a hearing health screening camp on Wednesday at Bandlamitta Girls High School. The event aimed to raise awareness among students on World Hearing Day. GGH Superintendent Dr. S. Manikya Rao said, "Nearly 90 per cent of hearing problems can be prevented or effectively managed if identified at an early age and treated appropriately." He advised people to avoid self-medication or home remedies for ear issues and to see a doctor promptly. The camp was opened by the Superintendent and screened almost 100 students. Dr. Prabhakara Rao, Head of ENT, said awareness and screening are held from community to school levels as part of the World Hearing Day initiatives. Dr. Manikya Rao thanked the District Educational Officer for permission to conduct the camp. He added that, with approvals, GGH plans to adopt Bandlamitta School for ongoing medical support and health awareness. In a session with students, doctors explained that the ear cleans itself naturally and warned against using ear buds or cotton swabs inside the ear canal. They stressed the importance of early detection of hearing loss and urged parents to seek medical help if they suspect issues. Students were encouraged to support people with hearing aids and promote an inclusive environment.
