JetBlue Flight Engine Failure Causes Emergency Landing at Newark Airport, No Injuries
February 19, 2026
Traffic stopped briefly at Newark Liberty International Airport on Wednesday. A JetBlue flight to West Palm Beach, Florida, had an engine failure during takeoff. The crew on flight 543 saw smoke in the cockpit and returned to land urgently. The Airbus A320 used slides on a taxiway for passengers and crew to exit safely. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported no injuries and said it will investigate the cause. The FAA paused some arrivals and departures. Flight tracking site FlightAware showed 31% of arriving flights and 30% of departing flights were delayed. The Port Authority said normal operations resumed just after 7:00pm ET once the plane was removed. JetBlue said, "Safety is JetBlue’s top priority. We are focused on supporting our customers and crewmembers and will work closely with the appropriate federal authorities to investigate what occurred."
