Gas Explosion in Karachi Kills Six, Injures 11; Building Collapses

KARACHI: At least six people died and 11 others were hurt after a suspected gas explosion partially collapsed a residential building in Karachi's Soldier Bazaar area. The incident happened at a house in the Gul Rana Colony. The injured and dead were taken to Civil Hospital. A District East police spokesperson said, "According to initial reports, the explosion occurred due to a gas leak, resulting in part of the building collapsing." Rescue 1122 confirmed that search and rescue operations are ongoing. An urban search and rescue team and a disaster response vehicle are at the scene. The police spokesperson added, "A large contingent of officers, along with rescue teams, reached the scene soon after the incident was reported. Police cordoned off the area and tightened security, while rescue agencies initiated a search and rescue operation." More details will follow.
