In Muzaffarabad, the combined opposition in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Wednesday accused the PPP government of losing its majority. They warned they would resist any attempt to derail the upcoming elections. At a packed press conference at the Central Press Club, leaders from the PML-N, PTI, and its dissidents said the government was avoiding constitutional accountability in the assembly. Shah Ghulam Qadir, PML-N regional president and Leader of the Opposition, said, "We ensured quorum. With business on the agenda, the sudden adjournment was incomprehensible." He noted that only one minister was present during the session to answer questions before it was abruptly adjourned. The opposition then passed an unprecedented resolution condemning the government. Qadir claimed the PPP no longer held a majority and accused it of hasty appointments and arbitrary distribution of posts, including political advisers placed in the Kashmir Liberation Cell instead of experts. He warned, "If the PPP does not mend its ways, it will not take long to move a no-confidence motion." However, he said the opposition did not want to destabilize the system before elections and would act within constitutional limits, adding, "The government will act, and we will react." The opposition is firmly against any extension of the assembly’s term "even by a single day." Former prime minister Raja Farooq Haider criticized budget changes without assembly approval and said the prime minister was "walking a tightrope." He called the current government setup a deviation from the original temporary agreement. The opposition also noted that despite the Supreme Court restoring the Third Party Act, appointments are still made without proper tests or interviews.
