Big news from the tech world! Accenture, one of the biggest IT firms in India, wants to build a shiny new campus in Andhra Pradesh. This campus could add a whopping 12,000 new jobs, making Visakhapatnam the next big tech hub. India is already the largest home for Accenture’s employees, with over 300,000 working here out of 790,000 worldwide. The company has asked the Andhra Pradesh government for about 10 acres of land in Visakhapatnam at a very low lease price. This big idea is part of a smart plan by the state to attract IT giants. Andhra Pradesh offers leased land at just Rs 0.99 per acre — yes, less than a rupee! — to firms that promise to create lots of jobs. Other tech stars like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Cognizant are already on board, setting up campuses that could create 20,000 jobs in total. Cognizant plans to invest $183 million while TCS is ready to invest over $154 million. A state official shared some insider info: "It is not an unreasonable ask by Accenture, and the proposal will go through." Though approvals can take time, the government is keen to welcome Accenture. However, the exact investment amount Accenture will make is still under wraps. Why all this excitement for smaller cities like Visakhapatnam? After the pandemic, IT companies want to avoid the crowded big cities. Smaller places mean cheaper land, rent, and salaries. Plus, it’s easier to hire local talent there. This trend is a game-changer, reversing the usual flow of workers moving to big tech centers. This move by Accenture also comes when U.S. policies are making H-1B visas costly and tricky. A new $100,000 fee for these visas could hurt the IT sector hard since they rely on hiring skilled foreign workers. On top of that, a proposed 25% tax on American firms that use outsourcing services is causing worry. So, India’s IT firms are working fast to grow and adapt right at home!
