Navi Mumbai woke up to shocking news as a quick police chase ended with an arrest at Karanjade pond in Panvel taluka. On Thursday night, a 32-year-old man named Nagesh Kale brutally killed his elder brother, Dattu Kale, 45, by smashing his head with a huge stone. Why? Because Nagesh believed his brother was involved in an illicit relationship with their cousin's wife — a scandal that had tarnished the family's name and brought shame to their relatives. Senior Inspector Nitin Thakare of Panvel City explained the chilling events: "On Thursday late evening, Nagesh took his sibling Dattu along to the pond in sector 5, Karanjade, under the pretext of consuming alcohol. An argument ensued between them as Nagesh was furious about Dattu's illicit relationship with their cousin's wife. Nagesh smashed Dattu's head with a stone and escaped, leaving him in a pool of blood." Around 8:30 pm, a local villager spotted Dattu lying in blood near the pond. The eyewitness quickly rang the 112 police helpline. Thanks to the smart and speedy action of beat marshal constables Vilas Karande and Rajendra Keni, who received the alert on their Mobile Data Terminal, the suspect did not get far. "The constables reached the spot immediately and learned from the villager that Nagesh was the suspect since he saw him accompanying Dattu to the pond," said SI Thakare. The officers talked to the victim's family and soon discovered the bitter family dispute. They traced Nagesh to the Sai Nagar slums behind Tata Power company in Karanjade, where he was trying to pack his bags and escape his fate. The constables caught him red-handed. Meanwhile, the forensic team collected the large stone used in the crime as evidence. Deepak Kale, the victim's 21-year-old son and a flower vendor, filed a complaint that led to Nagesh's arrest. Now, the accused faces murder charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. This quick police response stopped a murder suspect from fleeing the state, showing how alert law enforcement can turn the tide in serious crimes. Panvel’s residents can breathe a little easier knowing justice is already in motion.
